DIY Buy vs. Rental Professional

Rent vs Buy - not everyone has to make this decision. Quite often, there are people who won't even consider purchasing things for their wedding outside of a cake stand, a cake cutting set, and champagne to toast with. Some people do want to purchase things and in this episode, you will learn how you will want to do or not do that and also how to work with rental professionals, so everything goes smoothly on your big day.

Pinterest is great. Etsy is great. So are Homegoods, Hobby Lobby, and everyone's favorite, Amazon. Often, we come across things that we think will be perfect for somewhere at our wedding. Wonderful! You're thinking, "this will be great! I can save money and make my wedding more unique!"

Let this episode be your guide before you make that purchase.  There's so much to think about and we are going to get into it big time, so that you can make a great decision between buying items or renting items for your wedding decor.

Plithos Event Rentals and Styling is a rental company in southwest Florida, owned and operated by Sarah, Jen, and Ally that has provided rentals for over 100 events. Their name Plithos comes from the Greek word host. For the girls at Plithos, it's more than just rentals, it's a way to bring people together. They love to design and curate perfect setups, so you can be the perfect host. From birthdays to baby showers, from weddings to thanksgiving, they can give you and your guests a memorable experience.

Jennifer has worked with tons of couples and planned many events. When she got married, she purchased all her decor, so she has an idea of when you need to buy your own or when you need to rent out some options. There are pros and cons to buying things. The number one con when it comes to buying is the high cost of everything that you need. Your time is your money too, so for you to go out and source things for your wedding , it is definitely going to take a lot of your time. You also have to go to all these different places to buy your stuff, because you want it to be different. Reselling the wedding decor stuff you got is also very hard as it needs special designing, shipping, and other things you don't want to dip your feet into. If you're doing a destination wedding, you have to ship all the stuff to the destination and you're stressed the whole time, not being in peace. Another hassle is the wedding is storing the decor stuff and taking care of it later like washing table linens and so that is why people don't prefer buying.

There are a few pros to buying stuff, so a good opportunity to buy things is if it fits your style, and you want to re-use it. If renting is not for you, simply buy stuff. If you find something unique that you want to buy for your wedding that will bring a cool vibe to it, go for it.

A lot of rental companies do design, so if you're wanting to set up something, they can prepare a mockup plan for you that you can look at. When you use rentals, you have the opportunity to fully customize your wedding and let your wedding be magical. Rental companies have a lot of beautiful stuff as they have gone through the work of finding those things. When you have a rental company, you have someone professional who is going to set up things and take them away from the venue. One of the cons of rentals is that they can be costly, as they are very unique pieces and they require some amount of cost to get delivered and be taken away, but if that’s what you need or want then it’s worth every penny. Taking care of stuff after the party is over is not your responsibility and has to be taken away by the rental company, which is much more feasible and convenient as a host.
