Creating Your Wedding Website

You’re newly engaged and you want to tell the world so you begin to create a website but have no idea where to begin. There are so many exciting activities happening but we’ll help guide you through what to include and what to leave off your website so you can start spreading the news.

The first item that you’ll probably want to add is your story. This should be an overview of how you met, the proposal, and how to chose your wedding destination. People appreciate seeing appropriate pictures of the two of you together over the years at important events.

Next, you should add a detailed schedule of the activities leading up to the big day, including dress code expected. For example, if you are hosting a destination wedding weekend and you want everyone invited to a welcome party, the rehearsal dinner, wedding, and post-wedding brunch put it all on the website. However, if you’d only like the bridal party to attend the rehearsal dinner and all other guests to just attend the wedding, only add the wedding day details to the website. You don’t want to end up with an inadequate amount of food and people don’t want to feel unwelcome at any event.

Another item to add is a list of area hotels and attractions for guests to reference, especially if it’s a destination wedding. Many guests may be unfamiliar with the area and might need some helpful tips and reference information if you’ve booked a discounted block of rooms at a hotel.

Some people also like to include a short biography on each member of the wedding party with a picture. This helps those involved in the big day to understand how important they are to your love story.

Finally, it’s helpful to include your gift registry information on your website. It’s a known fact that people misplace items often so if your paper invite with this information can’t be found, guests have another place to reference.

I recommend keeping the website clean and organized looking with only relevant information for guests. People want to find out pertinent information but don’t need to read a two page or longer story of your entire dating history. Brevity is appreciated in this busy day and age.
