Tips for Organizing Your Wedding Photos

Your wedding day is going to leave you with hundreds, if not thousands, of images. Between all the professional images you get along with the many images your guest have taken it can be overwhelming to sit down and make sense of them all. To help quickly and easily organize all the photos from your wedding, use these simple tips.

1. Organize by time of day.

One of the first ways to begin organizing your wedding photos is by time of a day. This will make it easier for you to find specific images from the ceremony, reception or from the early morning while the bride and groom were getting ready. Once you have them separated into a general time frame you can begin to separate them into more specifics from that day. The reception images you can organize into the entrance of the bridal party, speeches, dances, cutting of the cake, dinner and then the farewell.

2. By people.

You can also begin to organize your images by who is featured in them. Create a file for the:

• Bridal party

• Groomsmen

• Bridesmaid

• Bride

• Groom

• Parents of the couple

• Kids

• Immediate family

• Extended family

• Friends

• Coworkers

3. Establishing or detail shots.

Next, you might notice you have plenty of shots that don't show any people. These establishing shots can be placed in their own category and then organized by time of day. Chances are you'll have images of the wedding dress, bridesmaids’ dresses, shoes, the rings, flowers, ceremony hall, reception, and various décor.

Finally, once you have all your images organized you might have a number of images that are just not that great. You can put these in a separate file to delete. You can also do this as you go but it might be best to wait until you have everything organized to determine which images you don't actually want or need. You might find you have a number of very similar shots and may only want to keep the best one or two images.
